Title: Killers of the Flower Moon Pdf The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI

“The best book of the year so far.”—Entertainment Weekly“Disturbing and riveting. . . . Grann has proved himself a master of spinning delicious, many-layered mysteries that also happen to be true. . . . It will sear your soul.”—Dave Eggers, New York Times Book Review“A marvel of detective-like research and narrative verve.”—Financial Times“A shocking whodunit. . . . What more could fans of true-crime thrillers ask?”—USA Today“A master of the detective form. . . . Killers is something rather deep and not easily forgotten.”—Wall St. Journal“David Grann's Killers of the Flower Moon is unsurprisingly extraordinary." —Time“A masterful work of literary journalism crafted with the urgency of a mystery. . . . Contained within Grann's mesmerizing storytelling lies something more than a brisk, satisfying read. Killers of the Flower Moon offers up the Osage killings as emblematic of America's relationship with its indigenous peoples and the 'culture of killing' that has forever marred that tie.” —The Boston Globe“[C]lose to impeccable. It's confident, fluid in its dynamics, light on its feet. . . . The crime story it tells is appalling, and stocked with authentic heroes and villains. It will make you cringe at man's inhumanity to man.”—The New York TimesNew York Times bestseller (April 2018) David Grann is a staff writer at The New Yorker and the best-selling author of The Lost City of Z, which was chosen as one of the best books of the year by The New York Times, The Washington Post, and other publications and has been translated into more than twenty-five languages. He is also the author of The Devil and Sherlock Holmes. His work has garnered several honors for outstanding journalism, including a George Polk Award.

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER   -  NATIONAL BOOK AWARD FINALIST

A New York Times Notable Book

Named a best book of the year by Amazon, Wall Street Journal, The Boston Globe, San Francisco Chronicle, GQ, Time, Newsday, Entertainment Weekly, Time Magazine, NPR, Vogue, Smithsonian, Cosmopolitan, Seattle Times, Bloomberg, Lit Hub, and Slate

From the #1 New York Times best-selling author of The Lost City of Z, a twisting, haunting true-life murder mystery about one of the most monstrous crimes in American history

In the 1920s, the richest people per capita in the world were members of the Osage Nation in Oklahoma. After oil was discovered beneath their land, the Osage rode in chauffeured automobiles, built mansions, and sent their children to study in Europe.
Then, one by one, the Osage began to be killed off. The family of an Osage woman, Mollie Burkhart, became a prime target. One of her relatives was shot. Another was poisoned. And it was just the beginning, as more and more Osage were dying under mysterious circumstances, and many of those who dared to investigate the killings were themselves murdered.
As the death toll rose, the newly created FBI took up the case, and the young director, J. Edgar Hoover, turned to a former Texas Ranger named Tom White to try to unravel the mystery. White put together an undercover team, including a Native American agent who infiltrated the region, and together with the Osage began to expose one of the most chilling conspiracies in American history.

First rate! This is one of the best true crime historical accounts I've ever read. From start to finish it is compelling reading that didn't let me put the book down. A darkly fascinating subject well rendered.Masterful. A disturbing piece of history wonderfully told. This one I couldn't put down. What an incredible period in Oklahoma history that I never learned about until now. The author captures an era of lawlessness and greed in frontier life and shares a piece of history that almost remained untold. Thank goodness David Grann didn't let this one die. I really enjoyed this book and hope this story is included in future history classes. A cautionary tale demonstrating the level of greed and heartlessness that can sometimes take hold in people's hearts.Yikes. This is one of the most heartbreaking and terrifying books I have ever read. I hope that it becomes a staple of reading lists for American history classes. It is an incredibly well told story of a staggering real world evil in an America only two or three generations removed from our own. You should read it. It won't take long - it is, though it feels crass to say so, a genuine page-turner. And I at least will likely wrestle with it for a long while. Man o man.

Nathan Hale's Hazardous Tales Pdf

ISBN: 1419703951
Title: Nathan Hale's Hazardous Tales Pdf Big Bad Ironclad!
Author: Nathan Hale
Published Date: 2012-08-01
Page: 128

Gr 3-8-One Dead Spy begins as Nathan Hale is about to be hanged. He was not a very good spy. But in the hands of Nathan Hale, the present-day graphic novelist, he makes an excellent narrator. American history is hilarious in these lively, rigorously researched, visually engaging stories. α(c) Copyright 2013. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. No redistribution permitted. Nathan Hale is the illustrator of the graphic novel Rapunzel’s Revenge, which was an Al Roker Book Club for Kids selection, an ALA Notable Book, and a YALSA Great Graphic Novel for Teens and earned three starred reviews. He is also the illustrator of several picture books. He lives in Provo, Utah, with his wife and their two children.

Each of the books in Nathan Hale’s Hazardous Tales has elements of the strange but true and is presented in an engaging, funny format, highlighting the larger-than-life characters that pop up in real history. Big Bad Ironclad! covers the history of the amazing ironclad steam warships used in the Civil War.
From the ship’s inventor, who had a history of blowing things up and only 100 days to complete his project, to the mischievous William Cushing, who pranked his way through the whole war, this book is filled with surprisingly true facts and funny, brave characters that modern readers will easily relate to.

Praise for Nathan Hale's Hazardous Tales: Big Bad Ironclad
"Livelier than the typical history textbook but sillier than the many outstanding works on the Civil War available for young readers, this will appeal to both history buffs and graphic-novel enthusiasts."
Kirkus Reviews

"Readers interested in American history will enjoy these graphic novels... Comic panels of varying sizes enhance the real-life events and support the stories’ over-the-top humor... the writing is accessible and entertaining; author Hale’s style gives readers an insider-y, you-are-there-type scoop."

Sparked my son's interest in history We discovered these books when my son was 7. Nathan Hale's books have been a springboard into his interest in history. These are engaging, funny, and informative. I can't thank the author enough for the work he put into crafting these books. We have all of them and my son reads them repeatedly. My son loves this one My 8yo son has read each of the NHHT books multiple times. He keeps one with him wherever he goes. They can have themes that may be shocking for some, but those opened good discussions for our family. For example, _The Underground Abductor_ exposes some atrocities of slavery that I wasn't aware of. Our kid asked questions, and we talked them out.If you have a kid who loves learning and humor and you can handle having discussions about hard stuff occasionally, then I highly recommend these books. We have loaned a couple to friends who don't love reading for pleasure, and they also LOVED these books.and we have both absolutely loved them. I've never had much of an interest ... I bought my son the Hazardous Tales series for his 8th birthday, and we have both absolutely loved them. I've never had much of an interest in war history, and would never in a million years have picked up a traditional book on naval battles of the Civil War (yawn), but this one was so entertaining and informative! I'm glad to know that my son will go into 3rd grade with a broader knowledge of American history than most adults, and I'm happy to finally be learning this stuff myself!

Shut Up and Listen! Pdf

ISBN: B07PWFYY6L
Title: Shut Up and Listen! Pdf Hard Business Truths that Will Help You Succeed

For entrepreneurs ready to reach the next level of success, small business owner turned multibillionaire Tilman Fertitta shares the commonsense principles that have rocketed his worldwide hospitality empire to the top.

"Accomplished businessman Tilman Fertitta...employs his staccato baritone in this blunt primer on entrepreneurial leadership skills. Liberally dosed with braggadocio, his audio performance is consistently engaging. Clearly, Fertitta is a no-nonsense person, and this audiobook reflects his temperament." (Audiofile Magazine)

For aspiring entrepreneurs or people in business, this audiobook will help you take your company to the next level. When you finish listening, you'll know what you're doing right and what you're doing wrong to operate your business, and if you're just getting started, it will help set you up for success.

Tilman Fertitta, also known as the Billion Dollar Buyer, started his hospitality empire 30 years ago with just one restaurant. So he knows the challenges that business owners face, as well as the common pitfalls that cause them to go under. Over the years, he's stayed true to the principles that helped him scale his business to what is believed to be the largest single-shareholder company in America, with over $4 billion in revenue, including hundreds of restaurants (Landry's Seafood, Bubba Gump Shrimp Company, Morton's Steakhouse, Mastro's, The Chart House, Rainforest Café, and over 40 more restaurant concepts) and five Golden Nugget Casinos. He's also sole owner of the NBA's Houston Rockets. In Shut Up and Listen!, he shares the key insights that made it all possible.

When entrepreneurs appear on Billion Dollar Buyer, the biggest obstacles they often face are ones they don't suspect: not knowing your numbers, not knowing your strengths and weaknesses, or not being willing to go that extra mile with your customers. Fertitta has seen it all. He knows that what you aren't paying attention to can either sink your business or become the very things that launch you to the top. As Fertitta says:

"You might think you know what you're doing, but I'm going to show you what you don't know."

Fertitta shares straight-talk "Tilmanisms" around six key action items that any entrepreneur can adopt today:

  • Be the Bull
  • No Spare Customers
  • Change, Change, Change
  • Know Your Numbers
  • Follow the 95/5 Rule
  • Take No Out of Your Vocabulary

A groundbreaking, no-holds-barred audiobook, Shut Up and Listen! offers practical, hard-earned wisdom from one of the most successful business owners in the world.

Excellent practical advice for aspiring entrepreneurs and those in leadership positions. Excellent practical advice for aspiring entrepreneurs and those in leadership positions. “Shut Up and Listen!” is also an enjoyable and entertaining read with multiple examples of successes and failures from the real business world. Being in the gaming industry I know that nothing is more important than making people feel special, regardless of their bankroll. You build customer loyalty by paying attention to the small issues so that they never become big issues. Everyone is a “high roller” relative to their bankrolls. All of these concepts and much more are well articulated in this book. In this modern economy all products and services must be focused on hospitality to thrive. This book is worth your time and compliments other hospitality classics such as “Setting the Table” and “The Disney Way”.Great quick read! What a great book! It’s a quick read that is easy to understand. Definitely some great takeaways! The 95/5 rule was my favorite...always, always look to improve.Learn from the BEST!!! Tilman's no-nonsense approach is refreshing. It's clear why he is so successful!!

The Golden Thread Pdf

ISBN: 1631494805
Title: The Golden Thread Pdf How Fabric Changed History
Author: Kassia St. Clair
Published Date: 2019
Page: 320

“Fascinating.... Written in elegant prose, this tour of textile history will draw in readers interested in human evolution and culture.” - Publishers Weekly [starred review]“A fascinating look at one of those everyday things many of us take for granted: fabric. Instead of tackling fabric’s entire history, St. Clair.... skips across centuries and around the world, sharing accessible and telling stories.... Whether sharing the silk-making secrets of Chinese empresses or exposing the benefits of performance-enhancing swimsuits, this extensively documented and always entertaining overview works equally well for reading cover to cover or dipping into for snippets.” - Kathleen McBroom, Booklist“[A] spirited, illuminating cultural history on essential fibers that have been spun, knitted, and woven throughout time, from traces of thread discovered in Neolithic caves to the multilayered "one-person spaceships" worn by American astronauts.... Vibrant, entertaining, and brightly informative.” - Kirkus Reviews“Hugely ambitious, sparklingly erudite, and wonderfully engaging.” - Peter Frankopan, History Today“Joyful and beautiful.” - Nature“Will make you rethink your relationship with fabric.” - Elle Decoration“The history of the world through the eye of a needle.... [F]ascinating.... I recommend this book to anyone.” - Katrina Gulliver, Spectator“A charming, absorbing history that takes us on a journey from the silk roads to sportswear, from ruffs to spacesuits.... I devoured this quietly feminist book.” - Sunday Times Kassia St. Clair is a journalist and author who has written about design and culture for publications including the Economist, Elle, and the Times Literary Supplement. The author of The Secret Lives of Color, St. Clair lives in London.

A Sunday Times (UK) Book of the Year
Shortlisted • Society of Authors' Somerset Maugham Award
A BBC Radio 4 Book of the Week

The best-selling author of The Secret Lives of Color returns with this rollicking narrative of the 30,000-year history of fabric, briskly told through thirteen charismatic episodes.

From colorful 30,000-year-old threads found on the floor of a Georgian cave to the Indian calicoes that sparked the Industrial Revolution, The Golden Thread weaves an illuminating story of human ingenuity. Design journalist Kassia St. Clair guides us through the technological advancements and cultural customs that would redefi ne human civilization―from the fabric that allowed mankind to achieve extraordinary things (traverse the oceans and shatter athletic records) and survive in unlikely places (outer space and the South Pole). She peoples her story with a motley cast of characters, including Xiling, the ancient Chinese empress credited with inventing silk, to Richard the Lionhearted and Bing Crosby. Offering insights into the economic and social dimensions of clothmaking―and countering the enduring, often demeaning, association of textiles as “merely women’s work”―The Golden Thread offers an alternative guide to our past, present, and future.
