There will be some emotional roadblocks that will get in there way but with the help of some good friends and good advice you know that maybe they will find there way to one another.A wonderful tale of a years long love that finally finds its way home! 5+ stars! Birthday Suit is vintage Lauren Blakely. I'm not sure there is anyone else who can combine heartwarming characters with the sights and sounds of NYC quite like she does. Right from the very start, Leo and Lulu grabbed my attention and their story of a years long unrequited love hit all the right notes. I'm forever enamored with the way Blakely practically insists that many of her heroines have a culinary talent that is unmatched. Lulu's chocolate confections had my mouth watering right along with whoever might be the lucky one to taste test one of her decadent treats. It's no wonder that Leo, a marketing genius in all things chocolate, fell hard once again for the woman who is his match in every way possible.I loved that we got the entire story with chapters dedicated to the 3-sided friendship that started 10 years prior between Lulu, Leo and Leo's best friend, Tripp. There is a sad tale that slowly unfolds as to why Lulu ended up with Tripp and not Leo. Despite the fact that they had so much in common and felt at ease with each other right from the start. But it's Leo's desperate love for Lulu that he had to keep hidden all these years that made my heart ache. I just wanted him to declare his love for the girl that got away and have her realize she made a mistake when they were young. His pain truly became my own.The words flow effortlessly as Lulu and Leo begin a work relationship that is filled with crazy team building exercises, using NYC as the answer to riddles that determine the winner of a week-long vacation and prize money. I just loved their easy rapport and how they saw each other in a new light, desperately wanting to leave the past behind. They each battled their memories in different ways but there was never a lack of respect nor affection when it came to the other.This is a tender kind of romance and it was hard not to root for our couple to find that perfectly imperfect rhythm they could call their own. With wonderful secondary characters in Kingsley, Ginny, Noah, Cameron and even George, this book is rich with emotion and has the perfect balance of humor and love.There is a comfort in Blakely's words that continue to put a smile on my face long after that last word is read. The forbidden aspect is well thought out and never feels over the top nor unreasonable. Leo and Lulu are smart and witty and only have eyes for each other. Getting over their shared past is not easy but is necessary to reach such an uplifting conclusion.Starting off 2019 beautifully, I happily give Birthday Suit a huge 5 stars!

A sort of Catch-22 meets Black Hawk Down, The Desert and the Sea is written with dark humor, candor, and a journalist’s clinical distance and eye for detail. Moore offers an intimate and otherwise inaccessible view of life as we cannot fathom it, brilliantly weaving his own experience as a hostage with the social, economic, religious, and political factors creating it. The Desert and the Sea is wildly compelling and a book that will take its place next to titles like Den of Lions and Even Silence Has an End.

Exciting and fast read Great read. Kinda dragged on but we'll written. I have to admit I kept thinking of how the author out both his mother and the government in peril to get this book writen. Just seems the actions were intentional.Truely scary real life tale Fascinating tale of intrigue and modern piracy. A bit difficult to follow as it was in a journal format and not too polished but the events themselves overrode the rough read. Well worth the time to read this story.Years of living as hostages of Somali pirates I enjoyed the story, the pirate tale, the hostages’ plight and most of all the sparks of humanity the author noticed and conveyed. No one was all bad nor greedy, no one was without fault (except the mom). The outlandish conditions of the hostages were astounding, hardly believable. The many languages, countries and beliefs of the hostages at first a difficulty, but became less divisive. The outcome was bittersweet and asks us to notice and care about hostages and the Somalis who find being pirates their best options.

THE Foster/Adopt Parenting Textbook (Buy it Now) This is the textbook for foster (and fost-to-adopt) parents. If you do not have it yet, stop reading reviews now and buy it on your tablet or Kindle or audible so you can read it immediately. If you have friends or family new to fostering, buy them this book now.This book should be given to every foster parent upon completion of training or during training. It's a shame they mention the book, the author, and the research during training but not simply hand out the book as your reference Bible for the tough times sure to come.I wish we had this book when we had our first placement. He had been through hell and his behaviors were beyond our comprehension. Within the first few pages of the book is a table that connects behaviors to feelings that should be passed out to every foster parent before a child moves in.Great Parenting Techniques, Terrible Generalizations Dr. Purvis spent much of her life studying and working with adopted children from many walks of life. In her book "The Connected Child" she makes gross generalizations for ALL adopted children stating that they are ALL "at risk" and therefore all will act out. As I have read this book, I can see the behaviors she describes in many children, biological or adopted. In fact, as I reflect on my childhood, I see many of the behaviors in myself.The parenting techniques that Dr. Purvis offers are great and often work very well. The techniques don't include screaming and yelling, solitary punishment, or physical punishment. The techniques are focused on redirection and correction of the behaviors. It gives you techniques on how to train a child to control their behaviors and express how they are feeling. It gives insights on how to help your child make decisions by giving them choices. It gives you tools to use to help kids to stop and think about what they have just done wrong, and how to do it right.If you can read past the generalizations of "at risk" adopted children, the parenting techniques and tools provided in this book are great and I think any parent, of biological children or adopted, can benefit from the lessons.It gives ideas on how to approach a difficult child with love and understanding This book is about attachment parenting or caregiving to children who have come through difficult situations. It gives ideas on how to approach a difficult child with love and understanding. I will keep this book as a companion to my baby book on attachment parenting called Christian Parenting and Childcare by Dr. William Sears. This particular book does NOT use scripture but it is scriptural in its teaching. Good for foster children, adoptive children from other cultures and children who have been in violent or emotionally abusive homes.

I have to tear them apart and it rips the top of the pages. This is unacceptable for a brand new book to release this quality.
